While I was in Chicago yesterday for some NFL Network-type things, I stopped by Halas Hall to check in on the Bears. You saw this yesterday, and there will be more to read on NFL.com next week. One thing I came away with, though, is a different understanding of WR Brandon Marshall. I had a long talk with Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake, focusing on what it’s like to deal with Marshall. Like all of us, Drake had heard things about the lightning-rod receiver before he arrived. Since then? It hasn’t been what he expected. “Unbelievable. Just a joy,” Drake told me about what it’s like to coach Marshall every day. “He challenges me, I challenge him, in a very positive […]

Bears RB Matt Forte is a Louisiana native, a Tulane graduate. He grew up in nearby Slidell, La., and still has his entire family down there. So, of course, he is paying close attention to oncoming Hurricane Isaac and the damage it could cause to New Orleans. After practice today, I picked his brain on how he’s preparing for the season, and you’ll see some of that on NFL.com next week. Yeah, he’s a little competitive. At the end, though, we talked about the storm. Forte is confident his family will be safe. “I mean, we’ve been living there almost 30 years, so there’s been a lot of hurricanes over those years,” Forte told me. “It’s not like something new […]

It was a busy morning, as I spent most of it flying to Chicago and chillin’ in Soldier Field. The plan was to rehearse for one of our new shows on NFL Network from there, so that’s exactly what we did. Now, I’m at Halas Hall waiting for interviews with a few dudes… but before that, I wanted to take the chance to weigh in on some issues from yesterday. Why? Because yesterday is almost two days ago and then it’ll be too late. So, want an opinion on the new, 5-year, $37.5 million contract extension for TE Aaron Hernandez and the trade of Jets T Wayne Hunter for Rams T Jason Smith? Cool… – The Patriots and Hernandez’s reps […]

The Tennessee Titans have no plans to put Dez Bryant-like restrictions on their troubled wide receiver Kenny Britt, coach Mike Munchak told “NFL AM” on Tuesday morning.
“We have a particular schedule because he’s been on the PUP list and he’s been injured,” said the second-year head coach. “We have him on a certain schedule that we feel fits perfectly for him. He’s involved in everything the players have done as far as, he is in all the meetings, he’s doing all the things he needs to do, h’’s here on time, he’s been doing everything we’ve asked of him.”

When the Tennessee Titans named Jake Locker the starting quarterback despite some so-so preseason performances many surmised the decision was based on his work during last season and this offseason.
Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed that theory when he joined “NFL AM” on Tuesday morning.

The New York Jets have looked like a disheveled mess in the preseason with question marks on the offensive line and a media-fueled quasi-quarterback controversy leading some to consider the temperature setting on Rex Ryan’s office recliner.
“This isn’t all on Rex,” NFL Network and NFL.com’s Steve Wyche said Tuesday morning on “NFL AM” when asked of the head coach’s precarious predicament. “This is on (general manager) Mike Tannenbaum, who put that personnel in place, who signed some guys to some contracts that have become prohibitive. They don’t seem like they have a lot of depth in a lot of areas; the talent really isn’t there.”
