Duane Brown: Matt Schaub key to Texans’ Super Bowl chances

Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub both went on record earlier this month regarding the Houston Texans’ expections, telling NFL.com and NFL Network’s Albert Breer it was Super Bowl or bust.

On Monday’s edition of “NFL AM” Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown agreed with that assessment.

“I think we made it to the playoffs last year, we got that off our backs, got our first playoff victory and of course you want to take it to next level,” he said. “We know the ability we have here, we know our potential. You definitely think about Super Bowl, you don’t want to talk about it that much, but when you reach a certain level you can only go further than that.”

One key for the Texans making the leap to the next level is keeping its quarterback healthy this season.

“Matt Schaub is an extremely important part of this team and part of this offense having him back mean a whole lot to us and it shows this preseason,” Brown said of the quarterback who missed the final six games of the 2011 season with a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot. “He is poised back there he leads the offense, he leads the team and he puts everyone at a certain comfort level, besides that he is a great player. He’s very important to us and it’s our job up front to keep him upright and let him make plays.”

With the NFL’s best ground game and potentially the top defense, keeping Schaub upright might be the only final piece in the trifecta leading to a Texans Super Bowl run.
