Maurice Jones-Drew has one former running back in his holdout-corner.
When asked on “NFL AM” Friday morning Clinton Portis said the Jacksonville Jaguars should pay the league’s leading rusher in 2011 because he brings a lot to the table.
“I really think he’s the last every down back left,” he said.
Portis also said MJD is the running back that reminds the former Washington Redskin of himself.
“I think Maurice Jones-Drew plays the game the right way and if there was one player I had to pick, there are a lot of amazing backs in the NFL for what they are asked to do, but Jones-Drew reminds me so much of a lot of the situations that I was in,” Portis said. “I think he is a tough, fierce player and I really wish they would have given him his money and I’m excited to see him back on the field.”
Portis believes MJD is right to hold out because outside of the Mark Bunell and Fred Taylor-years the pocket-sized running back has been the star of the Jacksonville show.
“I think his holdout is fair,” he said “When you look at what he’s doing for that organization, I’ve never been part of that organization and I don’t know the owner, but I think for what he does for the city of Jacksonville and that organization, putting it on his back, being all that they really have had for a long time.”
