Roger Goodell: Fantasy football has ‘added so much’

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stopped by the Best Buy Theater during Fantasy Draft Week and sat down with the NFL Fantasy LIVE crew to talk about fantasy football.

“It’s added so much to the game and the way the fans engage with the game,” the commissioner said. “And to be able to have their own draft now and to be able to have an impact with their fantasy and friends on the season, it’s a great thing for us.”

There’s little doubt that the growth of fantasy football has had a corresponding effect on the monumental interest in the NFL —  from making fans more knowledgeable about the league to adding a social dimension to your weekly pigskin viewing. Studying draft kits and prepping for fantasy drafts has become as much a part of the NFL preseason as two-a-days and quarterback competitions.

From fans figuring out how to get started to longtime players to NFL athletes, chances are, someone you know and (hopefully) love is a fantasy football enthusiast. Most likely, they’ve tried to corral you into joining their league.

If you’ve never played, what’s your excuse? Sign up for a fantasy football league on — it’s fun, it’s easy and it’s free! This is one of those times when peer pressure isn’t a bad thing. Join the crowd and add a little fantasy flavor to the 2012 NFL season.
