Grigson: Irsay’s exclamation points come ‘from the heart’

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck lit up the St. Louis Rams in his first taste of the NFL on Sunday, throwing a touchdown on his first pass and totaling 188 passing yards on 10 of 16 passing with 2 touchdowns in a 38-3 rout.

It’s not just the fans in Indianapolis who are ecstatic about the quarterback’s future. Colts GM Ryan Grigson gushed about his signal caller when he joined “NFL AM” on Monday morning.

“We have high expectations for Andrew, as he does for himself, but it was nice to see him out there doing it, moving around, taking a few hits and just being out there versus somebody else besides our own team,” Grigson said.  “It was exciting for everyone, the whole city and our organization as a whole.”

Colts owner Jim Irsay immediately took to twitter to voice his euphoria of his rookie quarterbacks start:

“Historic beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!! The legend has begun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,” he tweeted after the opening score.

Irsay’s choice in punctuation, Grigson said, epitomizes the owner’s enthusiasm.

“Those exclamation points were from the heart and that is how he rolls, he loves this game as we do,” Grigson said. “He was excited we were all excited, as you could see, Andrew was grinning from ear to ear on the television after that play, I mean who wouldn’t be it was a great start,” he said.
