St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is familiar with pressure.
No, not the stress stemming from rumors of dating a supermodel.
But the 2010 No. 1 overall draft pick knows the expectations of being a franchise quarterback.
The Rams were 1-15 and looking for a quarterback that would make fans forget that anyone other than Kurt Warner had taken snaps in St. Louis.
Coming out of college with a shoulder injury there were questions about whether Bradford would be worth the top selection.
The expectations for rookie quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III might be even greater than they were for Bradford.
The key for rookies to succeed is not worrying about outside influences, the third-year pro told “NFL AM” on Friday morning.
“You can’t let any of the outside pressure or anything that is said about you get to you,” he said. “Just worry about what you do every day, worry about what you can control, just try to help you team win every week.”
Bradford has endured a rocky first two seasons and is in the midst of learning his third offense since being drafted, but he believes his rapport with his young receivers in training camp will bode well for the 2012 season.
“I really like the way our wide receivers are playing right now,” he said. “Gibby (Brandon Gibson) has been here the past two years, I think he is having the best training camp he’s had, he’s playing at an extremely high level. Having (Danny) Amendola back healthy is extremely helpful, he looks really good and even the young kids Brian Quick, Chris Givens, I think they’ve done a great job, they’ve had to learn a lot in a quick period of time and I think they’ve handed that immersion in a great way I think they are really going to help us this year.”
