Kevin Kolb will play in Friday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told “NFL AM” on Thursday morning.
Kolb injured his ribs in Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game against the New Orleans Saints.
“It’s improving every day,” Whisenhunt said. “We are going to check it before the game tomorrow and see exactly where it is, but now we are expecting him to play unless there is some type of setback.”
The Cardinals coach also said Friday’s game won’t dictate who will be the starter come opening week.
“I don’t think we have a timetable on that,” Whisenhunt said. “It’s something we have to evaluate over the course of time in this preseason, we have to give them enough reps in similar situations so that we can evaluate it and let it go over the next couple of games and see where we are.”
Kolb, it seems, will be given every opportunity to win the starting quarterback job, and the battle with John Skelton could come down to the final preseason game.
