Upper hand: According to ProFootballTalk.com, Kansas City Chiefs wideout Dwayne Bowe “plans to show” before the regular season begins. Since he has not yet signed his franchise tender, the LSU product isn’t subject to fines like other players who hold out from training camp. As long as he signs by Week 1, the receiver’s pay is not in jeopardy. Since the Chiefs named Brian Daboll their new offensive coordinator, Bowe will be missing valuable time that could have helped him pick up the new scheme. Expecting him to show up and perform immediately could be wishful thinking on the part of fantasy football owners. Like the recent history of running backs whom have held out in contract disputes, Bowe could also be eyeing a big drop in production. Currently considered a borderline No. 2 fantasy wideout with an ADP of 52.16, it might be safer for potential owners to take a cautious approach when considering drafting him.
Redskin rising: The Washington Redskins have wideouts Pierre Garcon and Santana Moss set as two of their starting three receivers, and the battle for the third spot might be coming to a close. According to the Washington Post, Leonard Hankerson has “made a strong bid” for a prominent role in the offense. The team has been tinkering with the thought of using Moss in the slot position, so the idea of Hankerson making a big impact is possible. The Miami product is currently not on many fantasy radars, so taking a flier on the wideout as a reserve could provide good value in the later rounds.
Secondary option: It might be time to lower the fantasy football expectations many owners have for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd. The Notre Dame product worked with the second team offense in the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, and while much can change, Floyd might be facing an uphill battle. Not only will he have to contend with the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Early Doucet and Andre Roberts for touches, the quarterback situation does not bode well for the expectation that there will be plenty of wealth to go around. Floyd currently carries an ADP of 147.73, placing him as a borderline No. 3 or 4 fantasy wideout.
