Positive feelings abound in Buffalo this offseason over the Bills prospects for the 2012 season.
After starting 2011 5-2, including a thrilling Week 3 victory over the New England Patriots, the Bills collapsed and finished 6-10.
Head Coach Chan Gailey gushed about the Bills depth and the additions of Mario Williams and Stephon Gilmore, along with a healthy Shawn Merriman claiming he’s better than ever, have Bills fans wondering what the upside is for a defense that ranked No. 26 last season.
The question was posed to analysts Warren Sapp and Willie McGinest Thursday on “NFL Total Access” whether the Bills could crack the top five in defense.
“No,” Sapp said matter-of-factly. “No, is the answer you are looking for.”
McGinest wasn’t as quick to dismiss the Bills, but admitted they wouldn’t make his top five.
“I don’t think they will just in the top five unless that offense is just on fire,” he said.
McGinest’s top five: Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers.
