Can the Carolina Panthers back up Ryan Kalil’s prediction?

Ryan Kalil showed some confidence in his teammates when he took out a full-page ad in the Charlotte Observer stating, very eloquently, the Carolina Panthers will win Super Bowl XLVII.

“Will win” were the words he used. Not can, could, might, should, or any other less-assured modifier.

“Centers are usually pretty smart,” former center Shaun O’Hara cracked Wednesday on “NFL Total Access.”

Kalil’s teammates supported his proclamation and, according to Willie McGinest, that was all they could do.

“He said it, now you got to go back it up,” McGinest said.

Luckily for Kalil he plays in North Carolina, not New York, Chicago, Dallas, Boston or any other city where his comments would have brought a storm of media attention.

“It’s obviously a Jerry Maguire moment,” O’Hara said, referring to the fictional sports agent’s ‘Mission Statement’.

“I really like the old-school mentality, instead of tweeting he went old school and sent it out in the newspaper,” O’Hara continued.

“I come from a place (the New England Patriots) where you would get stoned if you wrote something like that,” McGinest added.
