Some of this post will be about football, but not all of it. Sorry, just not how we roll. So, did you know that Raiders left-footed kicker Sebastian Janikowski plays golf righty? It’s true (right). I was surprised to learn this… and Janikowski didn’t have much of an explanation.
It’s just, ya know, because.
“Actually I’m a right-handed (golfer),” Janikowski said. “Believe it or not. I’m right-handed. I throw right-handed, too. It’s weird, I don’t know. I just grew up that way, my dad was right-footed, I was left-footed. Totally opposite.”
Uh, OK. Also random? The big guy said he was really nervous this week.
“I’m more nervous than on the football field,” he said on the putting green in South Lake Tahoe. “But it’s fun. It’s my first year, I’m just learning. Just looking around…. It’s not my sport. My sport is kicking footballs, so I’m not that good in golf.”
We did talk football, a bit. Without legendary owner Al Davis, Janikowski said, “It’s different.” But he likes the direction of the franchise.
“We got a new GM (Reggie McKenzie), now Mark (Davis) is doing a great job,” Janikowski said. “Just gotta make the playoffs and move on. … We got a lot of new guys, new staff, new young coaches. We finished 8-8 last year, only missed by one game, so I think we’re going to pull it out. All we gotta do is get (it going) one game at a time, that’s all you gotta do.”
