Live from Tahoe: Bears K Robbie Gould says of RB Matt Forte’s deal, “Guys like that should be rewarded”

Look at Bears kicker Robbie Gould’s pants! (Twitpic)

Earlier today, before he teed off, Bears kicker Robbie Gould talked about his team’s offseason. That included picking up new weapons like Brandon Marshall and the fact that RB Matt Forte signed an extension.┬áSpeaking while wearing crazy blue pants (left), Gould was pumped.

That’s great,” Gould said of Forte’s deal. “It’s about time.

Yup. I think many would agree. But Gould (a really good golfer) said he wasn’t worried that a contract for Forte would get done.

I don’t think anyone was nervous,” Gould said. “A guy like Matt who has played very well, who has always been in shape, done the right things, guys like that should be rewarded. Not saying other guys who play well shouldn’t be rewarded for stuff they do, but Matt’s one of the guys they should’ve paid and they did and I’m glad they took care of him and rewarded him the way they should have.”

Now, there will be fewer distractions heading into camp. Not that Gould would have been focused on that.

Obviously it’s a business and at the end of the day, you gotta do what’s right for your family,” Gould said. “It’s kinda tough for fans to understand that when there is a lot of money on the table. I understand that, as well. But at the same time, the media is gonna blow it up — ‘He’s doing this, he’s holding out.’ Well, he’s not really holding out because he never signed. At the end of the day, the Bears took care of him and Matt’s gonna run really hard and is going to be a key asset to our team this year.”

Speaking of the team… Gould said, “We’re good. This is a fun year for us. Getting Brandon Marshall and Michael Bush to complement Forte, re-signing some guys like Craig Steltz and Israel Idonije was huge for us. At the end of the day, if there is ever a year where we’re going to have a chance, this would be the year.
