Whoever is in the foursome with A.J. Hawk in next week’s American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe should be a little wary of the Packers linebacker, who showed recently he isn’t above shoving a friend into the water hazard.
Video (posted above) of Hawk doing exactly that made the rounds a few weeks ago. While some felt if evoked the movie “Caddyshack,” it seemed like more of an homage to Johnny Utah, who drove Bodhi into the Pacific Ocean during the football scene in “Point Break.”
So when Hawk joined the “Dave Dameshek Football Program” to talk about the upcoming golf tournament, the question had to be asked … was he channeling his inner Johnny Utah?
“I didn’t put that together,” Hawk said, “but I would definitely rather be linked to Johnny Utah and Bodhi. That’s one of my favorites of all-time. Maybe I was just channeling that scene.”
Keanu Reeves has, amazingly, played two characters who were former Ohio State quarterbacks — Utah in “Point Break” and Shane Falco in “The Replacements.” We put Utah and Falco in the Gridiron Breakdown a few weeks back to see which quarterback was the best. Our results? Utah in a runaway.
But one doesn’t get to put the question to an actual Ohio State alumnus every day.
So what do you say, A.J.?
“I would have to pick Johnny Utah,” Hawk said. “Shane Falco was a little washed up after coming in as a replacement player; He was out there scrubbing barnacles off of boats wherever he was living [Washington D.C. according to the movie]. I would take Utah. [Utah] was a good player, but he hurt his knee. I guess they didn’t have the medical technology back then.”
We can finally put this matter to rest. Utah it is.
