Cardinals’ Whisenhunt: Fitzgerald not involved in Floyd decision

Star Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald didn’t play a role in the team’s selection of Notre Dame wideout Michael Floyd with the No. 13 pick in the NFL Draft, coach Ken Whisenhunt told NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano.

“Larry knew him, but as far as saying he wanted him here I think Larry just wants to win,” Whisenhunt said. “He just wants the best players for the football team … but we didn’t talk about it ahead of time.”

Fitzgerald publicly encouraged the team to take Floyd leading up to the draft. Both players are from the Twin Cities.

Whisenhunt said that Floyd will help the team in all areas, especially in flipping the field on opponents who are sure to focus on Fitzgerald.

“Well, we felt like we had a playmaker (in Floyd) who could help change field position for us, which is so important in today’s NFL,” Whisenhunt said.
