With the 2012 NFL Draft now a thing of the past, it’s time for the football world to look to the future, when the games will actually be played. How will the highly touted rookies perform when they stop being prospects and start being rookies?

Two of the most closely watched players are undoubtedly going to be Colts QB Andrew Luck and Redskins QB Robert Griffin III, who were the first and second overall picks, respectively. While NFL Network analyst Tom Waddle acknowledged that Luck will likely have the better overall career, he thought RG3 will have the superior debut season, because he’s entering a better situation than Luck. Fellow analyst Matt Millen, however, disagreed.

“I just think that Andrew Luck is just so unique,” Millen said on NFL Network. “You’ve not seen a guy like this come out in such a long time, where he understands everything at the line of scrimmage. He’s so far ahead already.”

Waddle and Millen both pegged Cardinals WR Michael Floyd to have more success than Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon, given the overall talent discrepancy between the two teams, but were split on Panthers LB Luke Kuechly and Patriots LB Dont’a Hightower.

Waddle compared Kuechly to “a little bit smaller version of (Bears LB) Brian Urlacher,” while Millen foresaw Hightower becoming a versatile presence in New England.

“What he can do with his hand in the dirt and finding the football is special,” Millen said.
