Ravens’ Williams to miss start of team workouts

Ravens CB Cary Williams will not report for the beginning of offseason work Monday, a league source said Friday.
Williams, who emerged as a starter in 2011, has yet to sign the restricted free-agent tender placed on him by the team, and he is unlikely to sign it soon.
He has secured a waiver that would allow him to participate in offseason work without a signed contract. Williams is very amenable to a long-term deal, and he and the Ravens have had preliminary talks. Teams have until April 20 to sign restricted free agents from other clubs to offer sheets.
Williams, still recovering from hip surgery, would be unable to participate in football activities at this point, anyway. He will report at some point this offseason, but likely not until May at the earliest. In the meantime, he is continuing to rehab in Tennessee, away from the team facility.
The 27-year-old Williams has been with the Ravens since 2009. He was selected by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
