Three and out: Michael Floyd to St. Louis?

Happy Monday, everybody! I loved the Masters this weekend. Not so much the Angels getting handled by their nemesis, the Royals who crushed them last year, too. But what do you say we talk some fantasy football?

Floyd to St. Louis? Check this out, our Gil Brandt (via Around the League) believes Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd could be the first WR taken, and not Justin Blackmon, whom everybody has earmarked for the honor since draftologists started breaking this thing down after the season. Floyd is making tons of visits and if he lands with a team like St. Louis, he becomes a rather attractive fantasy option. But if it’s the Jets, well, let’s pump the brakes a little bit. In any event, this is a scenario worth looking at. Even if St. Louis decides to stick with Blackmon, does a WR-starved team like the Jaguars take a chance on him? And if Blackmon is falling out of favor, does this mean Cleveland is closer to taking Trent Richardson? Or could they go Floyd? My guess is the Browns go with Richardson, and St. Louis ultimately sticks with Blackmon. But Floyd’s fantasy stock is on the rise.

Cutler wants more protection: Bears QB Jay Cutler could be a fantasy stud, but offensive line breakdowns have left him vulnerable. Our Gregg Rosenthal pointed out today in Around the League the Bears have done nothing to address the issue — other than letting Mike Martz go. But will that be enough? It can’t hurt. Martz’s schemes are a boon to running backs (look at Matt Forte), but at the same time leave a quarterback vulnerable to big hits. Better blocking schemes and the arrival of Brandon Marshall should have Cutler trending up on your fantasy rankings, which coincidentally should be released this week. Hey, at least act exited about that.

Bowe fired up about the Chiefs: Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe told the club’s web site (via our Around the League), things are well with the team under new coach Romeo Crennel (as a quick aside, I’m stoked he’s getting another chance because I always thought he was a good coach). The team has upgraded at many positions, including at running back by adding Peyton Hillis. But what about quarterback? A recent report insists the Chiefs could take a look at Ryan Tannehill in the draft if he slips past the Browns and Dolphins according to the Kansas City Star. The writer laments how the Chiefs passed on Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman. Uh, Flacco and Sanchez are no better than Cassel, but you have an argument for Freeman. But where there is smoke there is fire, so look for the Chiefs to add somebody to challenge Cassel, who is a QB2 at best right now.

For the record, you can submit your fantasy questions to NFL Fantasy Live, Michael Fabiano or me on Twitter. But realize, NFL Fantasy Live has 40,000 followers, and Fabiano has 50,000. Me? Just 13. See, the odds are better that I will answer your question, so hit me up both via Twitter or via Facebook. Also be sure to catch the latest “Dave Dameshek Football Program.”
