Ware, Matthews and Welker don adult diapers for charity

Former Jets QB Joe Namath created quite a stir when he endorsed pantyhose back in the 1970s.

Well Namath has nothing on Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware, Packers LB Clay Matthews and Patriots WR Wes Welker who are doing ads for … wait for it … adult diapers.

Wait, what?

That’s right. In the video above, the three guys are approached by a pitchman and agree to don adult diapers. At first glance, I thought this was a Saturday Night Live sketch. It’s real, though (as you can see from the Depend web site, on which Lisa Rinna also makes an appearance).

Your first question might be, why wasn’t Chargers kicker Nick Novak asked to participate? But your next question (and probably the next six) is likely — why? This doesn’t seem like a product most NFL players would be willing to endorse.

But it’s for a good cause. The players hope to raise money for the Jimmy V Foundation, the mission of which is to find a cure for cancer, including prostate cancer. It’s pretty cool that the players would risk ridicule to raise awareness and money to help with a serious issue, and they should be commended for it. The Depend site features more information about why Ware, Matthews and Welker would get involved.
