Ex-Bills DE Schobel mulling NFL return

Former Bills pass rusher Aaron Schobel is considering a return to football, according to league sources.

Schobel, a longtime Bill who retired before last season after wavering somewhat about it, recently has been contacted by a few teams and is at least contemplating a return.

With the Bills signing DE Mark Anderson on Wednesday morning, the market for veteran pass rushers effectively has dried up, but they remain a commodity that several contending teams such as the Ravens and Patriots covet.

Schobel, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end, missed the 2010 season because of injury, and then, after some contract talks with the Bills, opted to retire. However, he posted 10 sacks in his last playing season (2009), and older pass rushers such as Anderson and Andre Carter made an impact with the Patriots a year ago at an advanced age.

Schobel turns 35 on Sept 1.
