Raiders release Wimbley; agent says LB will take his time

Kamerion Wimbley, released by the Raiders on Friday as expected, won’t take any visits this weekend, his agent, Joe Linta, said.
The linebacker was informed of the team’s decision not long before Friday’s waiver deadline. NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reported earlier in the day that Wimbley would be released, citing sources.
Wimbley becomes one of the few pass rushers on the free-agent market, and he receives a $6.5 million guaranteed payment as part of his Raiders contract. Interest already is forming, Linta said, but Wimbley plans to take his time.
“Kamerion is taking this weekend to consider the teams that are interested and look for where the best fit will be,” Linta said.
The Raiders used their franchise tag on Wimbley last year, then signed him to a five-year, $48 million extension. Oakland worked Friday to restructure Wimbley’s deal and retain him, but its salary-cap constraints were too much of a hurdle, Linta said.
