Michigan brings out a crowd for pro day

Michigan held its pro day on Thursday, drawing 25 NFL teams to watch players work out. The Steelers brought a strong contingent, with coach Mike Tomlin, GM Kevin Colbert and assistant head coach/DL coach John Mitchell on hand.

The Wolverines had a resurgent season last year, and several players now are set to reap the rewards of their hard work. The Michigan players worked out indoors on Field Turf. Four players, in particular, are rising through the pre-draft process:

Mike Martin, DT (6-foot-1 ¼, 304 pounds) — He kept all his marks from the NFL Scouting Combine. Martin had an outstanding position workout and is a very quick, intense competitor. His size is his only shortcoming.

David Molk, C  (6-1, 299) — Molk also kept all his marks from the combine. He did not work out or do position drills because of injury — his right foot was in a cast.

Junior Hemingway, WR (6-0 7/8, 221) — Hemingway looked very good catching the ball from Bruce Gradkowski, the Bengals QB who was brought in to throw. He’s a sleeper who should surprise on draft day when he’s selected earlier than expected.

Troy Woolfolk, CB (5-10 7/8, 195) — He ran 4.57- and 4.56-second 40-yard dashes. Woolfolk posted a 31.5-inch vertical, 9-foot broad jump, 4.19-second short shuttle, 6.77-second three-cone and did 20 reps on the bench press. He looked better moving today than he does on tape. Woolfolk missed the entire 2010 season after injuring his foot, but he should be a seventh-round pick. His father, Butch Woolfolk, was a first-round pick by the Giants in 1982.
