Bills went the distance to land Williams

Mario Williams‘ deal with the Buffalo Bills could come into port at around six years for $96 million, with $50 million guaranteed, according to league sources.
A steep price for the star linebacker, but it doesn’t come as a great surprise. When you look at what’s happened with Lions WR Calvin Johnson and his new deal, nearing the $17 million a year mark, Williams was sure to follow.
Williams was the only dominant, young pass rusher on the market and — let’s face it — the Bills were desperate. They had him in their building for three days, trying to convince him this was where he needed to be.
They lost WR Robert Meachem, who they had in for a visit, to the Chargers. That put a pretty desperate spin on the situation in Buffalo, and they went to all lengths to get this done with Williams.
