Chargers cutting ties with CB Hughes

The San Diego Chargers are releasing cornerback Dante Hughes, according to a league source.

Hughes appeared in 16 games during the 2011 season, starting one, in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers. He logged 42 combined tackles on the season.

The five-year veteran has appeared in 29 games with the Chargers since 2009. He spent 2007 and 2008 with Colts, who drafted him in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Cal.
