All 32 teams were in attendance as 13 players worked out outdoors on field turf during UCLA’s pro day Tuesday.
Cory Harkey, TE (6-foot-3 1/2, 261 pounds) — He’s a blocking tight end, and ran 5.18- and 5.20-second 40-yard dashes. Harkey had a 26-inch vertical jump and did not do the broad jump. He posted a 4.66-second short shuttle, a 8.0-second three-cone drill and 12 bench presses of 225 pounds.
The following two players merit attention after Tuesday’s workouts:
Derrick Coleman, RB (5-11 1/4, 230) — He gained over 800 yards on a not very good UCLA team. Coleman ran a 4.56 and 4.62 40, had a 36 1/2-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-5 broad jump, 4.48 short shuttle, 7.73 cone drill and 20 strength lifts. This workout and this exposure got him drafted. I don’t know what obstacles he’ll have to overcome as a RB who happens to be hearing-impaired, but scouts said he caught the ball coming out of the backfield like a WR would catch it. Everybody was highly pleased with his performance.
Mike Harris, OT (6-4 5/8, 309) — He ran a 5.46 40, had a 31-inch vertical, 9-9 broad jump, 4.89 short shuttle, 8.1 cone drill and 22 strength lifts. He probably is a priority free agent: a good player but not real fast.
