Players unaware of other ‘bounty’ programs under Williams

After the league revealed its investigation into the “pay for performance” program administered by former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, several players who played for him elsewhere — such as Washington and Buffalo — said privately that there were never any formal “bounty” programs on those teams.
The players contacted did say that, at times, players might spontaneously give a teammate cash for knocking out an opposing star player. But they said Williams was not involved and such payments were never widespread.
The players said that it was not unusual on other teams, not coached by Williams, for players to offer money for big hits. But none of the players had ever heard of a formal, organized system in which the head coach and GM were aware of the process, as the NFL has found is the case with the Saints.
