Barring new contracts before Monday’s deadline, a slew of high-profile players will receive the franchise tag from their respective teams.
Bears RB Matt Forte, Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch and Patriots WR Wes Welker (barring a long-term deal with New England) are all expected to be tagged.
The Falcons tagged CB Brent Grimes and the 49ers franchised safety Dashon Goldson Friday.
Titans CB Cortland Finnegan is a possibility to be tagged, but the team has not told him whether or not he will be, according to a league source.
Cardinals DE Calais Campbell, Broncos kicker Matt Prater and Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee might be tagged if long-term deals can’t be worked out with their respective teams.
As previously reported, Saints QB Drew Brees is expected to receive the franchise tag as the two sides continue to work toward a long-term deal.
Bills WR Stevie Johnson, Chargers WR Vincent Jackson, and Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe are in limbo as well, unsure yet of exactly what their teams will do.
Dallas is in the same situation with DE Anthony Spencer. The Redskins have yet to inform DB LaRon Landry or TE Fred Davis, possible condidates, of its intention.
