The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to place a first-round tender on WR Mike Wallace, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Wallace is set to become an unrestricted free agent March 13, and already has said that he’d consider the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots in free agency.
While at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said he was “pretty sure” the team would use the tender on Wallace.
“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that Mike Wallace remains a Pittsburgh Steeler, and I think that’s Mike’s belief as well,” Colbert said at the time. “Usually when you’ve got two parties who share the same goal, it’s easier to achieve that goal.”
