Smith will be next veteran cut by Steelers

The Steelers will release veteran DE Aaron Smith, a league source said Thursday, the latest in a series of moves as the team cuts salary.

Smith played in just four games in 2011 because of a season-ending foot injury, the third consecutive season that was cut short by an injury. Smith played in five games in 2009 and six games in 2010 because of a torn rotator cuff and torn triceps.

It could be the end of the line for Smith, 35, who has played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Steelers.
