INDIANAPOLIS — It was just 19 days ago that Giants coach Tom Coughlin was here at Lucas Oil Stadium, basking in the glory of his second Super Bowl championship in five seasons.

Oh, how sweet it is being back. The welcome throughout this city has been with open arms.

“At every street corner, no matter who,” Coughlin said Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “No matter if there’s a gentleman over at the hotel, or someone that I meet crossing the street, or the gentlemen in the red coats here as you walk in the door here. They’ve all been very gracious.

“It’s a great feeling. It’s a little bit of a blur, but it’s a magnificent blur.”

Coughlin’s news conference wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, though. He did have some business to address, sharing the latest injury updates on Justin Tuck, Chris Canty, Ahmad Bradshaw, Linval Joseph and Jake Ballard, as well as addressing the contract situations of Brandon Jacobs and Osi Umenyiora.

As for the injuries:

» Tuck recently had shoulder surgery to remove scar tissue, although Coughlin wouldn’t call it an arthroscopic procedure.

» Canty recently had knee surgery, but Coughlin wasn’t specific about what type.

» Joseph recently had ankle surgery to fix bone chips.

» Coughlin said no surgery is needed at this point on Bradshaw’s ankle, which he fractured in Week 8.

» Ballard, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the Super Bowl, had surgery Monday.

As for the contract updates:

» Coughlin said he expects Umenyiora, who was public about his dislike for his current contract last summer, to be back with the team next season.

» Coughlin didn’t express the same certainty with Jacobs, although he sounded hopeful.

“Brandon has been an outstanding player on our team for any number of years, two Super Bowl teams,” Coughlin said. “As far as I’m concerned, he’s a big part of it.”
