Floyd faces questions about off-field shenanigans

INDIANAPOLIS — Michael Floyd wanted to talk about football, but the ring of reporters surrounding him only wanted to chat about his body of work off the field.

Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd faced some tough questions Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine. (Gary A. Vasquez/NFL)

Peppered with inquiries into a string of alcohol-related incidents in college, the Notre Dame receiver chalked up his past antics to “immaturity.”

“It was a mistake that happened in the past,” Floyd said Friday, “and … I’m moving forward. … I think I’ve grown a lot. Coming into the NFL right now, I think you do have to mature a great deal. …

“As they say, it’s a professional sport, and you have to act like a professional.”

Floyd described the maturation process he went through to get back on the straight and narrow, taking “classes” (vaguely referring to alcohol-abuse prevention classes) and tweaking his social circle. He credited his college coaches for sticking by him and keeping him accountable during darker hours.

When someone finally popped a football question, Floyd was asked to compare himself to a current NFL receiver. He offered a predictable reply: a combination of Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson.

These are the questions suffered by all at combine. What’s he going to say? Brett Swain?
