Spencer a franchise tag candidate for Cowboys

I caught up briefly with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, and he spoke pretty glowingly of LB Anthony Spencer, whose contract is expiring.
I couldn’t help but get the sense that Spencer is going to get the franchise tag. Garrett talked about how much more there is to Spencer, a former first-round pick, than his pedestrian sack totals. He said Spencer gets pressure and hurries on quarterbacks, and the game film shows him to be a valuable player performing at a high level.
Dallas has plenty of cap space and is always willing to spend. Owner Jerry Jones doesn’t let too many talented guys get away.
I walked away from my few minutes with Garrett thinking that Spencer is headed for a franchise tag — or new contract in Dallas – but not the open market.
