Silver defends quotes from Quinn interview

The post-Brady Quinn interview drama with “GQ” magazine isn’t over … quite … yet.
Quinn’s feelings on teammate Tim Tebow and the Tebowmania that swallowed the Broncos last season entered our consciousness earlier this week when the team’s “other” quarterback questioned Tebow’s humility. The quotes caused a stir, and caused Quinn to apologize later the same day. But he did so with a caveat, a large one, adding that the story was a “completely inaccurate portrayal” of his comments.
The author of said piece, Michael Silver, appeared on “Around the League” on Thursday, defending that not only were the quotes from the 50-minute taped interview accurate, but they weren’t taken out of context of the larger conversation.
“One of Brady’s contentions is, ‘Look, I wasn’t there ripping Tim Tebow. There were very balanced quotes in the entirety of the conversation, and yet the only ones that appeared seemed critical,’” Silver told NFL Network. “I understand him on that. Unfortunately, there were so many good quotes from so many people, that we just had to make tough calls.
“But the quotes are absolutely accurate. It’s not like the context of these quotes were altered in any way. He meant what he said.”
Certainly, access to the entire conversation would shape perception of what Quinn said, as well as what he meant. Until then, maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle.
