Panthers GM doesn’t expect Shockey to retire

INDIANAPOLIS — Earlier Thursday, there were comments from Panthers coach Ron Rivera referring to TE Jeremy Shockey possibly retiring. But know that the organization is planning on having him back.

General manager Marty Hurney said Thursday that the team expects him back and looks forward to him playing in 2012.

“Every indication we’ve received is that Jeremy is motivated to play football this season,” Hurney said. “That’s what we’re operating under.”

Shockey finished with 37 catches for 455 yards and four touchdowns in his first season in Carolina. During his 10-year NFL career with the Giants, Saints and Panthers, Shockey has amassed 6,143 yards receiving and 37 touchdowns.
