Ireland: Fans ‘do what they want’ with billboards, banners

INDIANAPOLIS — While Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland wouldn’t go into detail about his team’s pursuit of a quarterback, he did acknowledge a billboard purchased this week by fans pining for Peyton Manning.
“You know, the first I heard about it was about five minutes ago,” Ireland said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “The fans were flying a banner around the last football game. They do what they want to do. So, hey.”
Ireland surely knows the content of said banner as it was in reference to his own job. Flown around Sun Life Stadium during the Dolphins’ Week 17 win over the Jets, the banner read: ‘MR ROSS: SAVE OUR DOLPHINS, FIRE IRELAND.’
