Here’s some breaking news that ought to blow your mind: Randy Moss is still capable of running a 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds.
Or so Moss, who announced Monday that he’s coming out of retirement, informed NFL Network analyst Heath Evans.
“I went straight to the source,” Evans, a former Patriots teammate of Moss, said on “NFL Total Access” on Monday. “I texted my buddy, Randy Moss, and I asked him … ‘If you had to run a 40 right now, what would you run?’ And he texted back, explicitly, ‘4.35 to 4.38.’ ”
Let’s get this straight: We’re supposed to believe Randy Moss — who celebrated his 35th birthday Monday, mind you — can run the 40 faster than Julio Jones (4.39) and A.J. Green (4.48) did at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine?
“I believe the guy,” Evans said. “I trained with this guy in the offseason. He is a nightmare to work out with. Many guys came in and out of those workouts, and they never showed up again. This guy knows how to get it done.”
This bold proclamation from Moss definitely calls for a Terrell Owens-style public workout for him to prove it. Please.
“Randy, if you have that workout, Heath and I will be there,” NFL Network’s Charles Davis said. “I want to see that 4.35, 4.38, because I still have questions about, can he (play at a high level) consistently?”
