INDIANAPOLIS — Friday night I attended the ESPN The Magazine’s “NEXT” Party at a warehouse a couple of miles away from downtown Indy.
At first the party featured plenty of mingling, networking and exchanging of numbers with various players, and I spent most of the night chilling with Brandon Marshall. Eddie George and Cam Newton also were in the crowd, but I was especially excited to see Shaq.
I used to hang out with him a lot in Cleveland when he played for the Cavs. I remember when he first got to Cleveland. When I met him, I told him not to get up from the table because he’s so big, even if I’m standing on my tippy toes.
You know how big he is? Cam — who’s a pretty big dude himself — went up to talk to Shaq during the party and he was about half the size of “The Big Diesel.”
The event really turned into a party when Drake came on stage. I actually was getting ready to go to another party when he came on. I had forgotten all about him until then. But once he hit the stage, everyone got all hyped and started singing his songs.
He opened with a jam from an older album — not “Take Care” — but he did hit a mix of his new singles, too. Lil’ Wayne was in the house, but he didn’t make a cameo during the concert. There wasn’t a surprise appearance from Rick Ross, either. It was an awesome show, though; Drake killed it. I’d give it a 7 out of 10.
If I had to give you a rundown of my favorite concerts, the top three would have to include Beyonce, Wale and Jay-Z. The best show I’ve ever seen has got to be Jaime Foxx. I saw him a couple of years ago in Cleveland. Foxx has got to be No. 1 because he did comedy for an hour and then sang for an hour.
He made us laugh, and made the ladies cry. He dazzled everybody.
