INDIANAPOLIS — I think my blog should be about reconnection. That’s what the Super Bowl is about to me.
When people go into game mode it just seems like everyone just disappears. And then the Super Bowl comes, and that’s the place where everybody gets to catch up and gather again. The Super Bowl is a time to celebrate everyone’s success. It’s a time when everyone exchanges numbers, reconnects and really start to rekindle the relationships that have always been there.
It’s kind of like a high school reunion except that it happens every year. There are retired players who come back, young guys who hope to be in the league are hanging out, guys in the league are hanging out. It becomes this great community of players that now get to relate on different levels day in and day out.
For me, I kind of just walk around. I’m taking this Super Bowl differently than from some of the other ones during which I’ve really been out there aggressively trying to talk to guys. Sometimes you have to let the situation happen to you, and like some people say in football: Let the game come to you.
Some of the guys I ran into Thursday included Larry Fitzgerald, Will Witherspoon, LaVar Arrington, Roddy White, Deacon Jones, Rodney Harrison, Chris Carter and Michael Irvin. I also met Von Miller. When you run into guys like that, that’s a whole slew of individuals that have been into the league X amount of times over and are doing different things now. And now they all descend upon the Super Bowl, and it’s like we’re all in third grade.
