INDIANAPOLIS — Super Bowl week has pulled in characters from all corners.

On Monday, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was grilled by an anxious German reporter seeking tidbits on Sebastian Vollmer, the O-lineman hailing from hard-hitting Düsseldorf.

Tuesday, at Super Bowl Media Day, it was Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes‘ turn to field questions about his Scottish heritage.

Tynes was a wee lad in Greenock before moving to the U.S. at age 10. The Giants kicker has dropped the accent, but his dear mother hasn’t, and it’s a source of entertainment for his teammates.

“Sometimes after a game, I’ll have to put her on speaker phone, ’cause the guys like to hear her talk,” Tynes said. “They like it when she throws a curse word in there every once in a while.”

Tynes has a chance to win his second Super Bowl with the Giants, but he hasn’t forgotten his grassroots stint with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe in 2002, and he hopes to have an NFL team planted there someday.

“I embrace it, I certainly do,” Tynes said, “and when I’m done, I’d love to help as much as I can over there, with promoting this game or even help a team go over there.”
