Philip Rivers has seen better days. His league-leading 14 interceptions and 17 turnovers prompted Chargers owner Dean Spanos to suggest his quarterback is having an “off year,” while former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson piled on, saying the pressure of being The Man is too much for Rivers.

There was only so much left for Rivers to say when he sat down with Deion Sanders for NFL Network’s “Thursday Night Football Kickoff Show.”

“We’re in a little bit of a funk right now,” Rivers said, before correcting himself. “I … I’m just in a little bit … it’s a couple of plays, every game, that has kept us from winning.”

Even if he can’t exactly get the words out, Rivers isn’t hiding from what everyone else sees. He has no where to run. So he points directly in the mirror as the biggest reason why the 4-4 Chargers are still in a three-way tie for the AFC West lead.

“I have to take care of the ball. Bottom line is, that’s what’s kept us … we’ve done a lot of good. But (the turnovers) have kept us from winning games.”
