Ponder says McNabb has ‘been awesome’

Donovan McNabb wasn’t so great off the field for the Vikings this season, but it turns out he’s been pretty awesome off of it.
“Awesome” was just one of the adjectives rookie QB Christian Ponder used to describe McNabb. Ponder ended up with the starting job in Minnesota after the veteran McNabb led the Vikings to a 1-5 record. Apparently there’s no ill-will on the part of McNabb.
“He’s been unbelievable to me ever since the first day I met him,” Ponder told “Around the League” on Monday. “He’s always offered his availability and telling me he’s always available for questions or anything that I need.
“Even the first day right after coach (Leslie) Frazier announced we were making the change at quarterback, he came up to me and said if there is anything I need or questions, he’ll be there for me. That first week I was starting against Green Bay, he was there until 6 p.m. watching film with me after practice. He’s been tremendous to me, he’s been awesome, and I really appreciate him.”
McNabb doesn’t have a reputation as the most diligent when it comes to preparation, a side note he’s very willing to refute. While the story of his awesomeness might not make the Vikings’ dreadful start any better for fans, at least the team is getting some value out of McNabb this season.
