NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Christian Ponder will start for the Vikings, but will it improve your fantasy team? Let’s just say that it can’t get much worse. If you spent any time watching Donovan McNabb throwing bounce passes to his receivers, this should be looked at as a positive move.
Ponder is not a great option right now, except for those in dynasty leagues and leagues that play two quarterbacks. But there are some decent matchups for the Vikings looming, and Ponder was decent enough in relief of McNabb, that he should be at least be on your radar. Just don’t feel like you have to add him this week. A quick prediction though: Ponder will have more fantasy points than Carson Palmer this year, though I am not high on either one of them being huge fantasy performers.
Adrian Peterson continues to be a great option. You could argue that teams will not respect the rookie quarterback and stack the box against him. But which teams weren’t stacking the box against Peterson with McNabb at quarterback?
I am holding out hope that Percy Harvin might see an uptick in production here, but Michael Jenkins had the most targets (four) from Ponder on Sunday. Still, Harvin is the most valuable Vikings receiver to have at this point, though most have been suffering from general badness this year.
