Palmer is back on the fantasy radar

FOX Sports and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer broke a huge story Tuesday morning, as a trade between the Oakland Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals involving Carson Palmer is expected to be done before today’s deadline. The move has major fantasy implications for the Raiders, who just lost Jason Campbell for several weeks to a broken collarbone.
Palmer, who hasn’t played a single snap at the NFL level since the end of last season, will now be one of the hottest waiver-wire pickups in fantasy football. While I doubt the veteran will turn back the clock and re-emerge into a superstar, he will be a better option than a lot of other quarterbacks out there — that includes the likes of Rex Grossman, Donovan McNabb and Curtis Painter (to name a few) — once he knocks off some of the rust from his recent inactivity.
The addition of Palmer also is great news for Darren McFadden, who would have seen more stacked fronts with Kyle Boller under center. It’s also a positive for the value of third-year wideout Darrius Heyward-Bey, who now needs to be added in all leagues with 12-plus teams.
