The unexpected report that the Broncos are exploring the possibility of trading WR Brandon Lloyd has created a spark for some interesting in-season trade speculation.
Sure, the Panthers took themselves out of the mix of the “three or four” teams mentioned in the report. NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi checked in on “Around the League” Friday to discuss the possible destinations for the Pro Bowler, listing the Titans, Rams … and the Panthers … as possible options. Lombardi estimates there’s a 90 percent chance Lloyd is traded.
“They have to shop Lloyd,” offered Lombardi. “Lloyd doesn’t have (his) contracted extended after his season. So if they don’t trade him now, they’ll get nothing but a compensatory pick for him. What I find humorous is they have said they will take a third-, fourth- or fifth-round pick. If I was a GM, why would I offer anything but a sixth-round pick for him since they put out the price? I really believe Lloyd will be traded by Tuesday of next week.”
Lloyd is making $1.4 million in the final year of his contract. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday.
