Maclin mans up following crucial drop

Michael Vick might have left the Georgia Dome groggy, but it’s safe to say no one exited the building feeling worse than Jeremy Maclin did Sunday night.

After all, it was Maclin’s crucial fourth-quarter drop that ended Philadelphia’s chance at a comeback win in Vick’s return to Atlanta.

With the Eagles trailing by 35-31 and nearing the red zone, Mike Kafka‘s fourth-and-4 slant pass was right on target. Maclin just couldn’t hang on to the ball as he fell to the turf.

Maclin — who took an illegal hit from Dunta Robinson earlier in the game — used Twitter to take ownership of his gaffe.

“Can’t believe it….I apologize,” he tweeted.

Good for Maclin, who didn’t pass the buck (though we’re not sure how he could if he wanted to). Meanwhile, we’re certain this will appease Philly fans, known for their balanced and rational take on all things local sports.
