Data Points: Marino’s yardage mark in jeopardy

Every year, it seems, some quarterback makes a run at Dan Marino’s record for most passing yards in a season. After two Sundays of the 2011 campaign, it appears there might be a few guys capable of threatening the mark.
Marino passed for an NFL-record 5,084 yards in 1984. If Patriots QB Tom Brady kept up the pace he has set after two games, he’d obliterate that mark, finishing with an unthinkable 7,520 yards. But Panthers rookie Cam Newton is not far off that number, and there are actually no fewer than five quarterbacks on pace to break Marino’s mark.
