Tony Romo has exited stage left in San Francisco with an undisclosed injury, replaced by Jon Kitna to start the second half against the 49ers.
Romo appears to have been injured during the second quarter. After the 49ers went three-and-out to start the second half, Romo remained on the sideline talking to several members of the Cowboys medical staff. He looked pretty disgusted on the sideline — at one point kicking the dirt — before leaving for the locker room with a member of the team’s medical staff.
Romo was 8-of-17 passing for 144 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting that Romo suffered a rib injury. For now, it appears Romo is done for the day and the Cowboys will ride with Kitna.
UPDATE II: According to the FOX game broadcast, Romo sustained a rib fracture and is out for the rest of the game.
UPDATE III: So much for that report. Romo is now back in the game, trying to lead the Cowboys back from a 21-14 fourth-quarter deficit.
