Chiefs’ Charles leaves with apparent knee injury

UPDATE: The word from the press box is the Chiefs have downgraded Charles to out for the rest of the game, according to The Kansas City Star.
The Chiefs couldn’t draw up a worse way to start their season. One week after losing star safety Eric Berry in the season-opening loss to the Bills, RB Jamaal Charles left Sunday’s game against the Lions with what looks to be a serious left knee injury.
Charles was injured midway through the first quarter at the end of a 3-yard run. Trying to gain a first down, Charles extended his left leg at the first-down marker on the sideline and landed awkwardly, his left knee buckling slightly as he landed. He immediately clutched at it, then was taken off the sideline on a cart.
It doesn’t look good for Charles, and we don’t expect to see him again Sunday.
