Cassel exits for Chiefs after big hit

Todd Haley and the Chiefs flirted with one of the potential pitfalls of playing starters deep into a preseason finale Thursday night, keeping QB Matt Cassel and other first-teamers in the game late into the second quarter against the Packers.
We don’t yet know if they avoided a potentially serious injury, but Cassel did take a major hit on a first-and-10 play on the Chiefs’ second series of the quarter when he was landed on by 340-pound DL Howard Green. The result was that Cassel’s right shoulder was driven into the Lambeau Field turf. Cassel exited to the bench, where he talked with trainers, but cameras didn’t catch him being examined.
Cassel, who was later spotted throwing on the sideline, was immediately replaced by Tyler Palko.
