Countdown to Kickoff: Fewest fumbles in a season

With just nine days remaining until the 2011 NFL season kicks off, coaches around the league are still preaching football fundamentals after a contracted, lockout-saddled offseason.

Bill Belichick is a coach’s son who has heard about protecting the football since birth. Last year’s Patriots squad listened. New England led the NFL with a league-low nine fumbles, which stands as the third best single-season mark in NFL history.
