Roy Williams to lose starting spot?

It was just a couple of days ago that Bears coach Lovie Smith and QB Jay Cutler took a very understanding view of Roy Williams’ lack of production through the team’s first two preseason games. Wide receivers coach Darryl Drake isn’t being so forgiving.
‘‘He’s not where he needs to be, and he knows that,” Drake told the Chicago Sun-Times. ”He and I have talked about that — and the good thing is, you’ve got Johnny Knox, who’s fighting and working hard. And believe you me, Roy understands Johnny’s there. Johnny’s hungry, and Johnny wants his spot back. If things don’t start changing, then Johnny’s going to be in there.”
Williams has been a starter in Mike Martz’s offense since signing with Chicago last month, but he has yet to play like one. As the footsteps from a hard-charging Johnny Knox, who lost his starting job to Williams, get louder, the veteran wideout has gotten a little prickly, chafing at the idea that he had a pair of drops in Monday’s loss to the Giants. Think of Williams as a No. 3 option is fantasy leagues, but that could change as Knox continues his push.
